This is the perfect healthy homemade dog birthday cake that you can whip up in minutes, including decorations, candles and all.
I actually got this recipe online here. It's a gluten-free recipe, and I have actually made it myself (for human consumption) many times- it makes great grilled cheese, french toast, or anything that calls for bread.
Here's the recipe the way I adapted it for Velcro's third birthday.
Ingredients:
3 T. almond flour
1 egg
1T. canola oil
1/2 tsp baking powder
a tiny pinch of salt
1T beet juice (for pink color- you can use other natural food dyes for other colors, I suppose.)
Mix all ingredients in a small microwavable bowl, cook on high for 90 seconds. Let cool for a minute, then turn bowl upside down and allow cake to fall onto a small plate.
For the frosting: your choice- decorate with peanut butter, cream cheese, whipped cream, or whatever your dog prefers.
For Velcro, I shaped little balls of peanut butter around the edges and finished it off with whipped cream out of a can, tiny flowers in between the peanut butter, and then circled the base with whipped cream on a plate. Then I placed the candles, and POOF! You've got yourself a happy dog (or two, in my case).
Light candles, tell them to make a wish, give them a kiss, blow out the candles for them, then serve.
It will be gone in 30 seconds or less.
Promise.
